Hi! I’m Ty!
Today I get the chance to say to what I really feel to people…it just might take me a while to get the right words out.
Sometimes people think it’s really neat that goldfish is my favorite snack or seem really surprised that I am a good listener and hold my little brother’s hand when we cross the street. Sometimes people giggle and think I’m “so cute” when I run away from my Mom at the mall…that just makes me want to do it again and again, even though I know I’m making a bad choice.
Sometimes people think I’m my friend Connor, or think my friend Colton is me just because we all have blonde hair and are a little different looking I guess. Sometimes people ask my Grandma why I’m not in the special ed. class. It’s because I’m in 1st Grade with all my friends, just like every other 1st Grader. That’s the class you are in when you are 7 years old, remember? Sometimes people have a hard time understanding why I am the oldest brother. I don’t understand why that is so hard, I was born first. Duh!
Today I’d like to get the same looks my brother’s get when we are helping Mom at the grocery store. Today I’d like to be told to “Walk Please!” when I’m running through the halls at school. Today I’d like a grownup to talk to me in the same voice they do the other kids at the park. Why do they talk so loud and squeaky? Too loud! Today I’d like people to see my #1 scar on my chest and not make a weird, sad face. Can’t they see it is the coolest!?
Today is a day like every other day, but today I’d like to be treated the same as my brothers and friends, good or bad. Today, just treat me like Ty

/ May 21, 2010Ty, I just fell in love with you! (don’t say ‘eww’). Tell your mom that you have a new fan in me. I wish you could meet my daughter…you might be able to give her some tips about becoming a 1st grader! She also gets treated the way you do, sometimes. I’m going to have to look into the Blogging About Disablism Day!!
Your new friend,

/ May 21, 2010The Love Magnet is also in first grade, has a very cool scar (which we are trying to teach her to NOT show to everyone) and she also loves goldfish crackers. It’s going to be very fun to follow your blog.

/ May 3, 2010Dear Ty –
Scars can be wicked cool, so if you showed me yours I would definitely say so. Also, goldfish are a good snack – I like the pretzel kind the best. I hope that you continue to be a good listener, that first grade is your best grade yet, that you don’t run away from your mom in the mall, and that everybody can see that you are Just Ty, and that that is pretty awesome.

/ May 2, 2010I see you as the light of your parents’ lives when they found out you were on the way. And I certainly appreciate you as any other baby who projectile vomits all over me. I didn’t notice any difference

/ May 1, 2010Today Ty you are the coolest, as you are each and every day! I hope you show me your cool scar next time I see you! I will give you the face you want to see! The, you are a brave kid and you are a superstar face! Keep saying how you feel, cause maybe someday, hopefully a day real soon, people will finally hear your words!
Oh, and by the way Ty, WALK PLEASE!!!
